BEFORE YOU BUY A DIY RESIN BLANK

It's important to understand that a DIY resin blank REQUIRES PRIOR KNOWLEDGE and research regarding working with hard plastic as a mask medium. Resin blanks are a little more mechanically advanced than a standard foam-glued-to-a-balaclava head.

-Resin blanks require knowledge of how hinges work, how to use basic power tools like a dremmel/drill,  bolt usage, screwdrivers and adhesives.  If you do not have access to these items I would suggest foam as a fursuit mask base.

-Just because something you buy comes in a "kit" it does not mean everything will fit together like puzzle pieces; finishing and altering may be required.

-Everyone makes masks and mask blanks differently, THERE IS NO INDUSTRY STANDARD FOR THICKNESS, WEIGHT OR SHAPE!

-There's nothing wrong with gluing things to resin, some adhesives hold up better than screws and bolts.

-Not all hinges need to be bolted on.

-It makes little difference if you use springs versus elastic to give a jaw snapback.

-not all jawsets sit perfectly, and things generally don't fit together like a puzzle. Finishing and trimming WILL be involved!

-Some modifications may be needed to necessary to best accommodate your plans.

-Blanks don't magically come out of the box made for you alone, nor can the artist accommodate everyone's individual needs in the products they offer. They might try, but its important to understand that artists are not magicians.

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY A RESIN BLANK

A resin-based fursuit mask is NOT a latex or foam mask, so here's some things to keep in mind:

-Resin masks can be significantly heavier than foam masks due to heavy plastic and silicone parts

-Resin masks are not typically lined, lining would inhibit proper cleaning

-Balaclavas are a must when wearing a resin mask

-Balaclavas are not normally attached inside resin mask; this would make getting custom fits and working jaws difficult

-Expect them to be hot and sweaty! It is hard plastic surrounding your face! Holes and fans help.

-Tearduct vision is a lot smaller than toony-eye vision; you will need to be careful!

-Zippers are common, as are internal straps to hold it on your head, so getting into them is not as easy as a stuff-on-your-head foam mask

-Your face is a special snowflake, its not unusual to need to make adjustments on your own so the mask fits you just right

Most adjustments can EASILY be made by adding/removing small amounts of foam or elastic!

-Resin masks are custom made pieces of ART; not everyday-wear clothing

-A moderately high drop could break your mask in some way, BE CAREFUL with your mask and keep in mind electronics are fragile as well.

-Clean your mask either with disinfectant or a general non-toxic cleaner; mildew CAN grow if you don't clean the mask

-Resin masks will not protect you from injury AT ALL!

-Do not leave your mask in direct sunlight for long periods of time, or any hot environment; the plastic will warp!
